This term our school topic is "Tell Me A Story!", where we are using the joy of storytelling to explore different subject areas. When asked what stories they would like, Class 1 children suggested dinosaurs, unicorns, princesses, fairies, jungle animals, woodpeckers, the Three Little Pigs and the Titanic. We have started by enjoying some stories about dinosaurs.
The children's personal targets are written on open books, with their favourite character peeping out!
We had a wonderful day today when two storyteller/singers came into school to help us develop an enjoyment of performing poems and stories. Katie and Mel firstly entertained us with a variety of songs and poems, many from the Cornish tradition. We then all learned the poem Janny Jim Jan by Charles Causley. Mel showed Class 1 and 2 how to make shadow puppets, whilst Katie worked with Class 3 on creating stories inspired by the poem. Class 1 made large size puppets to tell the story behind an illuminated sheet and we enjoyed filming the final result.
Class 1 are very lucky to have been given an exciting Christmas gift by Mrs. Crisp, namely, fostering a baby elephant in Kenya! We have regular updates from the keepers at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust about how our elephant, Kiasa is getting on. Apparently she is a rather cheeky elephant, who tries to steal other elephants' milk! However, she is also very caring, looking after a younger boy elephant called Larro. We have enjoyed a story about the rescue of a baby elephant called Ndotto and are looking forward to other elephant stories. For information about Kiasa, please go to
The video is particularly interesting.
